Ken Ganley buys Bill Doraty Kia

Ken Ganley has acquired Bill Doraty Kia and is converting it into a Ganley-branded dealership.

Ganley acquired the Medina dealership from Chris Cummin, who lives in western Canada, and former dealership president Shea Sohovich on Friday, Feb. 7, according to Ganley, president and CEO of Ganley Auto Group. He declined to disclose terms of the deal.

A broker who knows Ganely approached him about the deal a few months ago. Ganley told Crain's that he liked the idea of buying a large, recently renovated dealership right across the street from a Ganley Nissan location.

"Having the two right by each other gives me great economies of scale," he said.

Bill Doraty sold the dealership in 2014 and now lives in Florida. At the time, it was one of the largest Kia dealers in the nation, Ganley said.

"I knew what the store had done historically. I know what it's capable of," he said.

Ganley has been busy lately. He also partnered with Bob Serpentini, president of Serpentini Auto Group, to acquire three Pat O'Brien Chevrolet dealerships on Jan. 16. Those dealerships are being branded with the Serpentini name.
